A treat from down under – my Nikki Williams bag review

finished bag

In September I decided to treat myself to a new bag that would see me through winter and beyond. I had spotted a little add in the back of Vogue for a handbag designer called Nikki Williams. A quick google showed a range of lovely bags, all made with fantastic materials and at fairly affordable prices.

Further investigation revealed free international delivery and that there are often special offers if you sign up to the newsletter. So if you are interested in beautiful quality bags you should definitely sign up at http://www.nikkiwilliams.com/ and keep your eye out for special offers.

I enjoy finding out about new brands, and reading the backstory of the people behind them. Nikki herself has a background in fashion, having worked in marketing for some of the biggest brands. I think you can see this heritage in the bags that she designs. They are beautiful and practical and all are classic designs that will be an essential part of any wardrobe.

I bought myself the Hampton Tote in black, I’m a fan of a big handbag, and this one is big enough for everyday but not so big it would be better suited as a travel bag. I have plenty of room for my stuff, work stuff and mum stuff and the bag doesnt look over filled – even with all that in it.

I love that there is one main compartment for all your bigger bits and pieces, as well as two small pockets. One buttons closed and I use that for 18 million tissues, carpark tickets and hand sanitizer. Then the other zip pocket is for work passes, chargers, headphones and leads that would otherwise become a tangled heap at the bottom of the bag. The bag closes with a magnetic button hidden in the nappa leather of the bag, this maintains the clean and elegant lines. There is a simple logo in gold coloured metal on the front, but other than that it’s a lesson in understated but beautiful design.

I bought this bag in September and have been using it daily now since then, so that almost six months of continuous use. So, how is it holding up?. The leather is still in excellent condition, it has softened somewhat as you might expect but that just makes it better looking. It’s very comfortable to carry as I feel it has moulded to me. The inside of the bag is just the natural leather back and is still pristine. In fact the only signs of wear I can see are little scuffs on the corners of the bag where it has been bashed and battered as I chuck it in the car and bounce it off walls. As they’re almost on the base of the bag you can’t see them really, speaking of the base there are little feet on there to protect the bottom too.

Ordering was easy, and the bag made it’s way from Sydney to Northern Ireland in about a week. It arrived beautifully wrapped and with a lovely dustbag to protect it. Since then I used the bag continuously and have only recently stored it away until the winter. The Hampton Tote comes in a few colours, including a lovely beige and navy, I could be tempted. I think that’s very telling, you know you’ve bought something good if you’d happily go back and buy one in every colour.

The Hampton tote is £182 full price, but as I mentioned there are often good discount offers to be had. So if you are interested then sign up and wait until the next offer before making your purchase, and I promise you won’t be disappointed. You can find out more here.
